2 Kings 9:30, The evils of makeup

Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she painted her eyes, arranged her hair and looked out of a window.

//In this story, Jehu rebels against Israel’s king Jorum and goes on a murdering rampage, protesting the “many whoredoms and sorceries” of Jorum’s mother, Jezebel. Jehu nails King Jorum with an arrow and chucks his corpse aside. Then he charges after Judah’s king Ahaziah, and murders him, too. Finally, he marches to Jezebel’s palace.

It becomes a Rapunzel theme with a twist. The damsel (Jezebel) slathers on the makeup, gets her hair all ready, and peeks out the window. She asks if her handsome prince has come in peace. But Jehu instead hollers up at the window, asking if anyone else is up there. “Two or three eunuchs” peek out, and the prince doesn’t take time to climb up her hair for a rescue; he tells the eunuchs to just toss her out the window.

Unfortunately, the story ends badly. She “spatters” on the ground and is trampled under horses. Then, she’s eaten by dogs.

Don’t feed badly, it’s apparently what she deserves. Jezebel was the first biblical character to wear makeup, and the act is implicitly linked to her “whoredom.” To this day, some Christian denominations continue to associate makeup with the harlotry of Jezebel.

I read your About Me, and I have to say I thought it to be quite strange that a “historical scholar” of the Messiah would refer to him by the wrong name.

Check it out~transliteration is different than translation. How come Jesus is the only name that is not transliterated correctly all through scripture?

Doesn’t it seem like someone went to an awful lot of trouble to completely change the name of the Messiah, from Yeshua(Hebrew meaning= YHVH saves, or salvation, root yesha=savior) to Jesus that has ZERO meaning. The “J” was only introduced 500 or so years ago.

I am sorry to hear that you consider yourself to be a liberal christian. A long time ago I would have thought that statement to be an oxymoron, but really it’s not. Most christians today walk around BELIEVING they can have their cake and eat it too! But anyone who reads the scriptures would know that that is just not so.

Scripture says very clearly~ there are ONLY two roads, one leads to life one to death, I pray you choose LIFE!
Deu 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

  2. Your concern is appreciated, thank you! I will continue to refer to Yeshua as Jesus, the most commonly used name among my readers, but please understand no offense is intended.

If you become interested in how a liberal Christian understands LIFE, you may find my upcoming book about the Gospel of John worth reading.

    Have a great day!

    Shalom DD,
No offense taken! Do you really think you have to dummie things down for your readers?

Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The verse above is being quoted form-
Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

*If you take the time to search HIS name out in a concordance, you will find HIS name is not Lord, Adonai,or Hashem, these are just titles. His name is YHVH.

Isa 43:11 I, [even] I, [am] the LORD; and beside me [there is] no Savior.(note- Yeshua means YHVH saves) There is only ONE!

Just because the Bible is written in English, translated from Greek doesn’t mean we should take the liberty to change the Creators/ saviors name, does it? Just so that people understand who we are talking about(why can’t we explain it so they can understand it?)

WHY?~ Well what about the Jesus of the Koran? He isn’t the same Jesus that the church teaches about, but there are prophecies about him that are very similar to the Yeshua/Jesus of the bible. I assure you they are not the same Jesus. Maybe something to check out.

Does any of this matter? I think it does! Why because of the following verse:

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

    The path is not broad!
